Govt to encourage private sector to boost exports: Secretary Commerce

ISLAMABAD (APP) – Secretary Commerce Sardar Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera said the government was fully committed to catalyzing private sector to contribute towards strengthening the national economy and boosting the country’s exports.

He expressed these views while talking to Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) Chief Executive Mian Kashif Ashfaq who is also Chairman of Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (FIEDMC) here, said a press release.

Over 2,000 apply for Pakistan visa online

ISLAMABAD: Around 2,250 individuals from across the globe have so far applied online to obtain Pakistan’s visa, according to data released by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on Tuesday.

Nadra, which developed the online system of issuing visas to potential travellers to Pakistan, said that 739 applications had been received during a single week starting from May 6.

PM approves Kamyab Jawan Programme

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan Thursday formally approved the ‘Prime Minister Kamyab Jawan Programme’ to give practical shape to the government vision of youth empowerment, well-being and welfare.

To this effect, the prime minister was given a briefing on the diversified initiative-laden programme by his Special Assistant Usman Dar here at the Prime Minister Office. He was also apprised of various measures being taken to propel the youth.

Cement exports up 31pc in 10 months

ISLAMABAD - The exports of cement from the country witnessed an increase of 30.89 percent during the first ten months of ongoing fiscal year against the exports of the corresponding period of last year.

The cement exports from the country were recorded at $ 243.118 million during July-April (2018-19) against the exports of $ 185.741 million during July-April (2017-18), showing positive growth of 30.89 percent, according to the latest data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Pak, Bulgaria agree to work together for promotion of bilateral trade

Pakistan and Bulgaria have agreed to work together for promotion of bilateral trade and investment.

The agreement was reached at the two-day second session of Pakistan-Bulgaria Inter-Governmental Commission, which concluded in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Secretary Economic Affairs Division Noor Ahmed led the Pakistani side while Bulgaria's Deputy Minister of Economy Liliya Ivanova headed her country's delegation.

Rashakai SEZs have huge strategic significance: BOI 

ISLAMABAD    -   Chairman Board of Investment (BoI) Haroon Sharif Sunday said that  Rashakai, Special Economic Zones (SEZs) had a strategic significance as it was closer to Afghanistan and resources rich Central Asian Republics (CARs). Rashakai SEzs was a joint venture between the Chinese company of China Road and Bridge Cooperation (CRBC) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government aiming to provide the facility of ease of doing business in the area, Haroon said.

China Pakistan FTA Phase II: Commerce secretary meets Faisalabad business community

Secretary Commerce, Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera, held consultations with the business community in Faisalabad on the recently concluded Phase II of Pakistan China FTA, on export growth with the trade associations and discussed the industrial infrastructure development with Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (FIEDMC).

Railways restores container train service after 22 years

Pakistan Railways (PR) has resumed container train service from Karachi to Lahore bringing an end to the 22-year suspension on Monday. With 70 containers, the train left Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT), Karachi Port Trust (KPT). Federal Minister for Railways Shaikh Rasheed Ahmad inaugurated the ceremony. Divisional Superintendent (DS) Syed Mazhar Ali Shah, chairman Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Divisional Commercial Officer (DCO) Ishaq Baloch and other officials of KPT and PICT were also present.

Rs578.8b released for development projects under PSDP

Federal government has released 578.8 billion rupees under its Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), so far for various ongoing and new social sector uplift projects.

According to a data released by Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform today, government has released an amount of 22.9 billion rupees for federal ministries, whereas 22.91 billion rupees for corporations and 41.6 billion rupees for special areas.
