Pakistan, Tunisia to sign PTA: envoy

LAHORE: A preferential trade agreement (PTA) between Tunisia and Pakistan is in process and would hopefully be signed during the first quarter of 2019, said Tunisian Ambassador Adel Elarbi. Speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), the ambassador said that the PTA will be signed after finalisation of goods for trade between the two countries. He pointed out that Tunisia enjoys significant geographical territory as it is close to African countries, European states and Arabian nations. Tunisia has signed a free trade agreement with the European Union hence it is expected to be the economic hub of African countries in the near future. “It can act as a gateway for Pakistani business community to the African countries,” he remarked. Elarbi urged the chambers of commerce from both the countries to come forward and play a key role in strengthening the economic relation. Speaking on the occasion, LCCI Senior Vice President Khawaja Shahzad Nasir demanded the business community of both countries to work jointly and utilise each other’s strengths.
